7th Sea

7th Sea is a roleplaying game of swashbuckling and sorcery, piracy and adventure, diplomacy and intrigue, archeology and exploration. It's a world of musketeers, pirates and privateers, ancient sorcery and lost civilizations, horrors that hide in the shadows and horrors that hide in plain sight.

Théah is an exciting and dangerous world of sharp blades and sharp wits where a cutting retort can be as deadly as the tip of an assassin’s dagger.

Backgrounds

Backgrounds will be used to represent Theah’s nationalities. Backgrounds for the western nations allow the player to choose one of the following as a bonus feat: Talented (based on the class skills from Swashbuckling Adventures) or Half-Blooded (with the nation’s sorcerous bloodline) or Full-Blooded (with the nation’s sorcerous bloodline). Backgrounds for natives of the Crescent Empire or Seven Kingdoms allow the player to choose one or the following as a bonus feat: Talented (based on the class skills from Swashbuckling Adventures) or Benefit (granting use of a supernatural power appropriate to the region as a favoured power). Backgrounds also determine initial languages known by the character and a bonus starting skill suitable for the character's profession. Unnamed ordinary characters or minions will not normally benefit from these background traits.

Skills and Feats

The Seamanship skill (Dex; Trained Only; Move action or longer) will be added to cover tasks to crew and steer a ship. The Use Device skill (Int; Trained Only; Standard action) will be added for activating the powers of Syrneth devices. Armour Training will apply to both light and medium armours. Vehicular Combat will be replaced with three general feats: Mounted Combat (based on Ride), Ship Combat (based on Seamanship) and Coach Combat (based on Drive). The general feats Half-Blooded and Full-Blooded will be added to indicate a sorcerous bloodline and to allow access to the Adept role. The Membership expert feat and Student warrior feat will be added to indicate acceptance by a secret society or swordsman school and to open the way to further benefits. The Follow-up Attack warrior feat will be added to allow characters with a combat bonus greater than five to make an additional attack with a -5 penalty as a full-round action. The Riposte warrior feat will be added to enable a reaction attack with a -5 penalty following successful use of parry defence. The Parry Focus general feat will be added to give a bonus to parry similar to Dodge Focus. Optional feats from Swashbuckling Adventures or other True20 supplements may be added if appropriate.

Supernatural Powers

The main Thean sorcerous bloodlines will be represented by levels in the Adept role and the choice of suitable powers. A character with the Full-Blooded background feat may take the Adept role at first level. A character with the Half-Blooded background feat may take the Adept role only at later levels. Certain nations or societies may possess knowledge of unique supernatural powers. These powers will be represented by favoured feats which can be gained without levels in the Adept role. Characters use these powers with an effective Adept level equal to half their total character level. The descriptions of certain powers will be streamlined to better fit the general True20 power mechanics and may be tailored to more closely reflect the capabilities of Thean sorceries through the use of Challenges or Extra Effort.
